Volunteers undergo a background check and if they want to drive, a DMV check. They also attend a volunteer training and orientation session. These sessions cover privacy and confidentiality, communications tips and what you can expect as a volunteer. Attendance at a training session is necessary before you can provide volunteer services. LOWLINC’s Volunteers Committee provides ongoing training and support.
Drivers transport members to healthcare and other appointments. Transports are either within LOW, right outside the gate, or within a 25-mile radius. LOWLINC volunteer drivers have the opportunity to opt-in to a program called Donate it Forward in which they receive monetary credit for their miles driven which they can donate to the charity of their choice.
