Volunteer Information

LOWLINC volunteers are passionate about helping older adults in our community. They provide a wide range of services to our members and help with planning activities and events. Volunteering is a satisfying activity and you’re bound to make new friends. Many of our members also serve as volunteers.

As a volunteer, you decide your schedule and interests. Our online volunteer signup system allows you to:

  • Volunteer as much or as little as you want, with a minimum of two services per month the expected practice
  • Select the days and hours of the week
  • Choose the services and opportunities you are interested in

Volunteers can provide Direct Members ServicesSpecial Opportunities, or both.

Direct Member Services

Transportation to medical appointments, errands, light home maintenance, and other member services.

Special Opportunities

Helping at events such as the Annual Picnic, stuffing envelopes in the office, and planning social activities.

Volunteers undergo a background check and, if they want to drive, a DMV check.  They also attend a volunteer training and orientation session.  These sessions cover privacy and confidentiality, communications tips and what you can expect as a volunteer. Attendance at a training session is necessary before you can provide volunteer services.  LOWLINC’s Volunteer Committee provides ongoing training and support.

Driver volunteers transport members to healthcare and other appointments. Trips are either within LOW, right outside the gate, or within a 25-mile radius.

Volunteer Benefits

While our volunteers report that serving our members is a benefit in itself, LOWLINC volunteers also receive access to our list of service providers (e.g., electricians, plumbers, landscapers) that have been recommended by members and volunteers. Volunteers are welcome to participate with members in social activities and outings.

Interested in volunteering? Please download and review our Volunteer Handbook and complete our Volunteer Application. Return your completed application to LOWLINC, Box 518, Locust Grove, VA 22508.  Call us at 855-569-5462 if you have any questions.

What Our Volunteers Say:

Volunteering is a gift you not only give to a member, but also to yourself.
I've met so many wonderful people through LOWLINC. It's a joy to interact with them.
I really enjoy the time I spend in the car driving members to their appointments. I have made many friends along the way.
