Training for Medical Note-Taking: A New Program to Assist Members
Did you ever go to see a doctor and forget to ask pertinent questions? Did you remember all the comments that the doctor summarized at the end of your visit? The average length of a doctor's appointment in the U.S. is 19 minutes.
Medical Note-Taking starts with a volunteer visiting with the member prior to the doctor visit. The volunteer will write down the reason for the visit, symptoms, and concerns.
At the doctor visit, Medical Note-Takers record what they hear. When the appointment is over, the volunteer Medical Note-Taker hands over to the Member the notes they have taken.
The Volunteer Medical Note-Taker should have an interest in serving older adults in a medical setting. Participants should provide exceptional customer service, including employing the use of active listening skills, diplomacy, tact and patience.
